Christianity Is an Eastern Religion

Jesus Discovered to Live Further East than Pittsburgh!

Radiolab did a show on Ancient Garbage. One segment was centered on papyri with supposed lost sayings of Jesus. Jad Abumrad, one of the hosts, comments that in these ancient scraps Jesus sounds almost Eastern. “This is a different Jesus than the one in the Bible,” he says. Read the rest of this entry »

Homophones

Lately I’ve been having trouble with my homophones. Its a little embarrassing because I’m the guy that has too point out (and politely, I think) the mistake in other’s writing. Usually this isn’t such a big deal, but their are times when it is. If I’m writing text four the church website, it would be nicer (when your reading it) two not see us perpetuate a stereotype of simple-minded, uneducated Christians. At least I’m catching it now, but I’m scared to think how long it’s gone on unchecked.

I recommend more Grammar Girl. Anything else I should look into?

Another Great Pope Comic

I hear George Clinton's voice when the JPII speaks

Do you remember me linking to another Pope comic? Were you kind of hoping to read another about the beloved pontiff (misplaced worship of the Virgin Mary aside)? Lucky you, Kate Beaton has one titled John Paul Tell Me About Your Job. Worship leaders, Bible preachers, Christian artists take note. You could learn something from the Vicar. He drops some mad science, yo.

About Kate Beaton

Kate Beaton makes comics that will please history geeks and (I’m guessing) Canadians. If you’re neither of these, you still might like her. Her comics can be found here and then when you’ve read all those you can keep up with new stuff here.

Baby Names and Nationalities

Susan and I haven’t picked a name for the baby yet. I don’t think there are any Filipino names left on the table. And by Filipino, I mean Spanish names, of course (goodbye and paalom, Emilio). We have biblical names that sound too biblical for a pastor’s son (Josiah, Jeremiah, etc.), at least to my ears. We also have a few ideas that aren’t already taken by the children of friends (my cousin’s newborn is apparently named Jackson).

This much we know. Our son’s last name is Skinner and his middle name is Robert.

Our conversation turned to easier decisions. Susan is White with a mixture of German, Irish and other stuff. I’m mostly Filipino and basically a quarter Black. So, what do our sons mark as their nationality—Caucasian, Asian, Slovenian? Read the rest of this entry »
