That seems like a good format.

Somewhat related to Michelle's comment is something my church in North Carolina did. After every service there were designated 'prayer ministers' who would talk and pray with anyone about anything. I used them several times over the years, and it was a great help and blessing.

It is awesome. :) Yeah, sorry in a group of twenty it would be hard to get "real." We start out in a bigger group of about 20 and react to the sermon. Then break into groups of five or so to pray and talk about how we will practice what was preached on the teachings of Jesus.

I believe we started at the beginning of January. I am not sure exactly how big the church is, possibly 500.

The website is http://amherstbaptist.com and if you wanted to talk to someone from our church, Scott Gilette or Eric Napoli would likely answer any questions you might have.

Michelle,
That sounds awesome. Groups of twenty are still hard to get "real," but it's a lot better than 100.

How long have you guys been doing it?
How big is your church?
What's the website? I'd like to talk a little bit about it with someone.

How novel. That might be something to try. Interestingly enough our church has recently adopted a new format. The sermon is delivered and afterward, in place of Sunday school, we attend discussion and application groups led by the elders and a few deacons. It has been life-impacting to attend groups of 20 to 30 where people can open up about how they were affected by the sermon, pray together, and receive accountability immediately. It has brought much joy to our congregation to suffer and rejoice with one another. Deeper relationships are being built and the church is becoming more of a family environment. Masks are being removed and people are being real with one another about struggles and attitudes, that we might become more like Christ.

Another cool thing is that if questions arise during the discussion groups, it is likely to be addressed the following Sunday because the deacons and elders meet weekly to review how the sessions went.

Yes! Of course. That allows the pastor or someone else to moderate the questions and still get the desired effect. I love it!
