The One Thing a New Christian Should Know

Consuming Worship posted the first half of a question/answer interview with me this week. One of the questions they asked was, What is one thing you wished every worship leader knew?

I answered with something specific to to worship leaders, but it’s not the most important thing a Christ-follower should know. And that takes precedence over what your vocation is. I put to the question to you folks.

What is one thing a new Christian should know?

“We have a band. I just started at Coram Deo in February of 2003, so we’re still finding our voice.”

Wow… 4 years to find your voice? sheesh Jack, you’re a bit behind schedule.

      heehee… typos suck sometimes!

Great write-up though. I’ll think a little more abut your question.

“In this world you will have trouble, but take heart - I have overcome the world!”

I went back and forth between something saying “love others more than you love yourself” and this, but a new Christian may be expecting an easy path and this is not to be. I think this nicely sums up both the warning of the trouble and the hope to see you through the trouble.

wow. typos do suck. I think that was my fault, not them.

Dave, that’s along the lines of what I would say. I appreciate you want to give a balanced view of the Christian life.

My little Jose is famous :-)

Now the weird thing about the interview is you failed to mention your band’s handsome bass player. That’s ok, I know I’m loved.

You spelled my name right!!! I was kind of shocked to see my name. But I had no idea that the church was done like this. I have some questions for you and Dawson later! It was a cool interview with lots of useful info on the church.

Now I know that is not why you posted this, so for me I think it is important for all people to know that you will find hypocrits, judges, sincere believers, holiday believers, and sinners in every denomination of churches.

Do not judge by the outward appearence, because you will be surprised who is in heaven and who is not. Just because you see a sin does not mean God hasn’t been working on hidden sins. It may not be the highest priority compared to what has already been conquered in that persons life.

Being a Christian doesn’t make you happy, but when God teaches you contentment that brings much happiness. If you want a happy go lucky life, then Christianity is not for you, look at the footsteps of the God we follow. However, you will have help in ALL your struggles. He will never leave or forsake you.

And finally, actions always speak louder then words.

    7. jose says:

That’s more than one thing, Jody. But then in real life it’s always more than one thing. I like that you included a reality check on how “happy” you’ll be after becoming a Christian, like Dave.
