Who Do You Say that I Am?
I was listening to a sermon from Rob Bell of Mars Hill or Nooma video fame. He was saying that we are already telling people about Christ. Whether we invoke His name or not, we are already communicating something about Jesus. People will surely discern something about Jesus from the sorts of things we say. Even what we do will communicate something, maybe even more clearly than our words.
So what have you been saying about the Son of God since you’ve started following him?
I’ve said Jesus is man. I’ve said he’s God. I’ve said Jesus likes to argue and has to win debates about minutiae. Also, Jesus cares about who’s going to heaven and who’s going to hell.
Jesus believes this world is going to burn anyway so hold loosely to everything. Jesus thinks it’s pointless to do good works for the sake of the world because its just going to get worse and worse until he comes back.
Jesus thinks its important to always stop at a lemonade stand, even if they’re not trying to fight childhood cancer.
Jesus thinks the Bible is a text book meant to be studied and dissected. Jesus thinks the Word of God is the sacred text of his people

I cannot agree more with Bell on this issue. Everywhere we go as Christ-followers, we are being watched. We have a daily choice whether or not to help the guy stranded on the road. We have a choice whether to provide a meal for a family that is in need. Evangelism is not about forcing the Roman Road done one’s throat. It’s about an unyielding love for those who are in need of a Savior.

An unyielding love… and then Roman Road (if it’s helpful). I think loving our neighbor is obeying Jesus. A byproduct of doing that is the weight it gives to our message of redemption. In my zeal to serve the world I don’t want to neglect the preaching of the gospel.

Wait to not fall off on the other side of the donkey (aka over-react), Jack.
