Lemonade Stand vs. Childhood Cancer
Abby spearheaded Coram Deo’s effort to raise money for childhood cancer. She heard of Alex’s Lemonade Stand and saw Nevada wasn’t representing so she took it upon herself to make it happen. The lemonade stand got a brief blip on a local tv station and written up in the Reno-Gazette Journal.
Around $1500 was raised between the stand and the online giving. In fact donations are still coming online. Here’s the link if you want to donate. Donate to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

Who Do You Say that I Am?
I was listening to a sermon from Rob Bell of Mars Hill or Nooma video fame. He was saying that we are already telling people about Christ. Whether we invoke His name or not, we are already communicating something about Jesus. People will surely discern something about Jesus from the sorts of things we say. Even what we do will communicate something, maybe even more clearly than our words.
So what have you been saying about the Son of God since you’ve started following him?
I’ve said Jesus is man. I’ve said he’s God. I’ve said Jesus likes to argue Read the rest of this entry »

Sheila E. on the ALMA Awards
Holy crap! Did you see Prince and Sheila E. on the ALMA Awards?!
I was flipping through the channels and I saw Prince moving from the podium as a presenter to the stage as a performer. Prince, as far as I know, isn’t Latino, but Sheila E. is. There she was onstage with her timbales. She and Prince traded several solos in a three song medley which included her hit, Glamorous Life. It was everything that a collaborative performance is meant to be, giving space and challenging one another.
Sheila E. built up her solos like a pro. The first couple demonstrated more her touch and finesse. She wasn’t just a pretty face when Prince found her and she hasn’t lost her chops over the years. Her final solo was where she let loose. She didn’t miss a beat when she lost a drumstick. She just grabbed another one and kept going.
Find it on YouTube or something. They tore it up; it was amazing.
(I understand that funky Latin band Grupo Fantasma was backing them up. Scroll down their home page and find some YouTube links to clips of them playing Oye Como Va in Miami with Prince.

Childish Things
When I was a kid I used to hate it when people told me how to do something. I thought I was smart enough. I didn’t need anyone’s help.
Now that I’m older I still hate it when people come along and try to tell me how to do something. But now it’s because I’m afraid I’m not very smart at all.
