My Son and I Looking at Each Other

Considering I am now in a situation where a specific ten pound person looks at me and sees a god, I look at him and feel remarkably finite and mortal.

The Baby’s Here! Or Beauty from Ashes

Mateo Thomas Skinner was born November 18 at 6:12pm after 2 hours of Olympian effort on the part of Mateo and his mother. He was 21 inches long and weighed 9 pounds 14 ounces and emerged into the world face up (which I understand is more difficult than face down). His head and face are remarkably not smooshed, making him not only the largest, but the cutest baby in the nursery.

I just need to say it again. Nine pounds fourteen ounces, two shy of ten pounds! The doctor said that if she knew he would be this large and positioned “sunny side up,” she would have recommended a Caesarean.

After we picked up some razors for Mateo, he drove us home Monday afternoon. Both mother and child are recovering well. Thanks so much for everyone’s prayers for our current joy and also our past grief.

We Know When He’s Coming

Unlike Jesus, we know when our baby is coming. By Saturday we should have a new boy in our lives, so if you think of us pray everything goes well with inducing my wife into labor. I appreciate the prayers you’ve lifted up for us ever since we’ve been trying to conceive.

The Advent of the Babe

Waiting for this baby is like waiting for the Second Coming. You know it’s imminent. It can happen anytime, like a thief in the night. There are signs that it will happen soon. You wait with great anticipation because you know everything will change when he gets here.

And you wait.

Soon you wonder if it will ever happen at all even if in the back of your mind you’re confident it has to. So you wait, but that sense of wondrous anticipation degenerates into a vague speculation on the level of wondering if it will rain today.

Publishing Online without an Editor

I’ve read over some of my older blog posts. All I can say is it should be illegal to have a blog without a part-time editor. It’s just too easy to publish online without someone to help you filter and offer feedback.

Is being your own editor akin to being your own lawyer?
