Corporate Confession
I asked my church history professor what does he think about the Church during the Crusades. He disowned them. They weren’t the Church. They were not us.
We’re just not going to have time to do it this Sunday, but I would love to confess the sins of our local church as one body. I can think of three things we can confess: 1) respecting the authority of our leaders, 2) appreciating our volunteers, 3) pridefulness concerning our church. Obviously, every individual wouldn’t be guilty of these things, but I think it’s good to emphasize the unity of the local body. When one of succeeds, don’t we all succeed? When one of us falls short, don’t we all bear the burden? And if the Church sins what good is it to say “they are not us” at what point will we do something to cause other parts of the Body to say the same thing about us?
I would prefer if the corporate response to the confessed sins would be “Lord, have mercy” because it connects us with the traditions and heritage of the Church. It also carries some baggage because it sounds Roman Catholic, so I thought “We confess it, Lord” would work.

Curator of Worship
I want to think more about the concept of being a worship curator. I’m drawn to the idea because I like how de-emphasizes the “worship leader” (or “lead worshiper” or whatever) and brings the work (the service) of the people to the front. Don’t let me forget.
