Fresh Feeling - Worship Idea #3

We’ve been rehearsing for our Christmas pageant musical cantata extravaganza, ‘Twas the Last Mailing Day Before Christmas, Sundays an hour after church. It makes for a long day and I always wish I had brought a change of clothes (I wear a shirt and tie when I’m in front of the congregation). If I had to bring one piece of extra clothing to change into, it’d be a pair of socks. It’s amazing how refreshing a fresh pair of socks can be.

Another thing I’ve done for long road trips is used talcum powder, specifically Gold Bond Medicated. I would use this anywhere I might get kinda sweaty. And it has a cooling feeling. Hurray for Gold Bond!

Can’t take shower? Slip on a pair of socks and whip out the talcum powder.

New Life - Worship Idea #2

Did you know you can buy frozen butterflies? I think people mainly purchase them for weddings, but I was thinking about being born again, a new creation, about the resurrection, and thought that butterflies might be a fresh metaphor for Easter Sunday. I’ve never tried this before, but it sounds like a good idea.

As people arrive, you can hand out the butterflies, which are kept safe in their release box (the boxes vary somewhat in style and sentiment). Sing your worship songs. Baptize your new followers. Preach your sermon then have everyone go outside together. Pray a prayer of benediction and thanksgiving and release your butterflies to fly into the wild blue yonder.

Some things to remember. The butterflies need at least an hour before the actual release time to thaw. And it needs to be warm and stay warm outside otherwise you’ll have shattered butterflies on the sidewalk. You can purchase them from Greathouse Butterflies for $60-$75 per dozen. I suppose that’s cost prohibitive if you have a large congregation, but perhaps 30 butterflies would be sufficient to get the effect.
