God of Tsunamis

“Why does God allow such a thing to happen?” my father-in-law commented on the tsunami that had killed tens of thousands of people. “This and the other thing.” The other thing is a someone’s daughter supposedly blinded after taking Children’s Motrin.

Automatically, I thought how sin’s entrance into the world changed everything. I repeated to myself the idea that creation groans and needs to be redeemed. The world needs to be fixed because it’s broken. I assured myself that one day the Son of God will return and make the world right—the lion and the lamb will lie down together. This is just what I’ll tell survivors of the tsunami when they ask why their loved ones have perished.

Merry Christmas. Happy New Year.

Some things I know for sure

There are some things that are normal and common in life that I try to remember. If I remember them, it keeps me from getting stressed out or overly frustrated.

  1. Babies cry.
  2. Every couple will argue at some point.
  3. Nobody is perfect—least of all me.

Mecca

My musical pilgrimage will find its consummation this February when I go with my wife to see Harry Connick, Jr. in concert. I remember crying and laughing at the same time when she gave me my Christmas present.

From Ship to Womb

Read The Nave from Rachelle. Evocative and powerful imagery of her evening at St. Mark’s Cathedral. Some challenging stuff at the end, but surely it’s worth rolling it around in your head.
