we’ve got bombs

I just can’t get enough of A softer world. I re-read them every once in awhile until I find the one that makes me cry that day.

Springtime Ethnic Cleansing

I’m just tired of not paying attention. I wonder what it’s like to have your world melting away into madness.

I hear Arab militias in Darfur are killing every black African tribesman they come across. But maybe what’s happening in the Sudan is just a civil war. I mean, the Sudan’s People Liberation Movement/Army is armed and rebels by all accounts. On the other hand, the Arab Janjawid militia is believed by many to be supported by the Sudanese government. This is the same militia that is practicing a “scorched earth” policy, burning black African villages to the ground. Maybe it’s too soon to call it genocide. Maybe it’s just ethnic cleansing.

But if we’re even having this discussion about whether it’s genocide or ethnic cleansing or just a civil war that is taking numerous civilian casualities, doesn’t that mean it’s way past time to do something? Read the rest of this entry »

Prayer to the Author

If you think of the world as a machine, a mechanistic collection of invisible gears and cogs, then it’s easy to think of God the Creator as a watchmaker—content to let the world spin as he observes.
If you think of the world as a masterpiece of art, a creative composition, then why not believe God is intimately involved in his work.

What interest do you have in us, Lord (free and timeless),
When we are tied to a string of heres and nows?
Yet you wrap your tale around ours,
Weave your signature style in the telling;
I trust you’ve penned for us a happy ending
That will bring you accolades and bravos.

A Conversation I’ve Never Had

Them: Hey, you didn’t capitalize the Y in you when you referred to God. Why don’t you want to honor God?

Me: Believe me. I’ve dishonored God worse than this. I’m pretty sure he’s more concerned that I haven’t ministered to the imprisoned, the orphans and the widows.

Sounds of Reno

Jennifer made this website as part of a class. It covers a few of the more fun coffeeshouses that offer live events. I mention it because at the Walden’s section there are some pictures and some audio of the last time I played there.
