A Deadly Blow to the Head

The lid to the baptismal needs to be repaired. One commented that it makes it dangerous to use. “Someone could be baptized and see the Lord in the same day.” “Sounds good to me,” someone else remarked.

I understand the coming of the Lord is our hope. I understand that heaven is our home country and the thought that we will one day go there comforts us when life is hard and full of tribulation. But is our life really that hard? How badly do we need to be rescued from our life, from this world that’s all going to burn anyway? If the world is all going to burn away then I guess I am just waiting around to die. A deadly blow to the head may be the best thing for me.

But lately I’ve been hearing the idea that perhaps there is more to our salvation from hell than just being saved from hell. Could it be that we have been saved to be instruments of God’s goodness? Is it possible that we are to be witnesses of God’s love and desire for a re-established relationship with mankind? Could it be the world that will burn away is loved by God?

I need to study and pray about this more, but something is telling me there is more to following Christ than waiting around to die.
